Will Donald Trump Accept Election Results?

On Fox News Sunday, Trump would not say whether or not he will accept the results of the November 2020 general election, claiming instead that the process is rigged before any votes have been cast.

Trump told host Chris Wallace that he is not a good loser, as well as proposing that mail-in voting is going to rig the election. When asked if he would even accept the results of the election, Trump responded, "I have to see." When asked again for a yes or no answer, Trump again said he will "have to see." He says this: "No, I’m not going to just say yes and I didn’t last time, either."

Trump has backed this claim about mail-in voting rigging the election even though he himself have voted by mail in recent elections, as well as his White House press secretary, and multiple other administration officials. In addition to this hypocrisy that should discredit Trump's claim, there are also many security measures in place to prevent any issues. Alex Curtas, a communications director for New Mexico's secretary of state's office told ABC News last week that "ballot tracking, intelligent barcodes, identity verification, post-election audits and the fact that there are severe criminal and civil penalties already in place (which makes any attempt at vote tampering a high-risk, low-reward endeavor) all combine to ensure that mail-in voting is a trusted way for voters to make their voices heard."

If Trump loses the election in November, we need to be prepared for him to use whatever power he has left to protest the results. Fortunately, I believe that we can physically use force if he refuses to leave the White House, but I sure hope it doesn't come to that. Good thing Gen Z was raised on dystopian novels where the main characters strive to overthrow ineffective government (Thanks Katniss).

In other news, during that same interview, he also proposed that the majority of people that get coronavirus only come down with sniffles and recover in a few days, which is of course not true. This level of misinformation is dangerous and will contribute even more to the exponential spread of the virus in the United States.
