Why are you wearing a mask?

I am personally wearing a mask to keep my breathing droplets to myself. Apparently, President Donald Trump does not believe this. He thinks that some Americans are wearing masks during this pandemic only to show their disapproval of him.

He also told The Journal that his issue with masks is that people sometimes touch them in order to adjust them, which increases the risk of infection. Mr. Trump said "They put their finger on the mask, and they take them off, and then they start touching their eyes and touching their nose and their mouth. And then they don't know how they caught it?"

Now obviously Trump has not been a proponent of mask wearing. He has been photographed time and time again going to public events without a mask on. Last month, he was seen at a Ford manufacturing plant without a mask even though he had been told by the state's attorney general that he had a "legal responsibility" to have one on. Trump then told reporters that he had one on behind the scenes but "didn't want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it." He also visited a Honeywell Plant in Arizona without a mask. The Associated Press reported that Trump didn't want to wear one because he was too worried that he'd look ridiculous and that it would harm his chances for reelection.

Ok, so this seems like a lot to unpack. I wish to remind Mr. Trump that the country he is the leader of is in the middle of a pandemic that is getting increasing more serious by the day, especially in states likes Texas and Florida. The fact that he is so self-centered that he could think that people wearing masks is somehow an affront to him concerns me. And in addition to that, the fact that he feels that people are disrespecting him by the act of wearing a mask is even more concerning. Why would he feel this is disrespectful unless he knows he is the biggest proponent of unsafe safety practices? He needs to remember that he is the role model of many an American citizen and needs to first stop letting his ego get in the way of common sense, and second start protecting the country he was sworn in to protect by listening to our experts. But, I'm just a teen and this is just my opinion.
