Here's is a complete list of all the platforms that have taken action against Trump and/or accounts affiliated with Trump.
- Reddit: banned the subreddit group r/DonaldTrump (not officially Trump but a Trump-affiliated group)
- Twitter: Trump's account will be permanently banned effective immediately
- Facebook: disabled Trump's account for two weeks until after the Inauguration
- Instagram: same as Facebook
- Twitch: disabled Trump's Twitch channel
- Shopify: took down two online stores (his organization and his campaign's merch sites)
- Google: pulled Parler (basically Twitter for Trump supporters)
- YouTube: stated they would begin pulling videos/channels that furthered election misinformation or voter fraud
- Snapchat: locked Trump's account
- TikTok: removed content violations and redirected hashtags like #stormthecapitol and #patriotparty to its community guidelines
- Apple: suspended Parler and threatened to permanently remove it if they don't moderate its content
- Discord: removed the Discord channel named "The Donald"
- Pinterest: limited hashtags having to do with pro-Trump topics, such as #StopTheSteal
- Amazon AWS: has ceased providing Parler with cloud services
- Stripe: stopped processing payments for the Trump campaign
- Okta: terminated Parler's access to a free trial of its product
- Twilio: suspended Parler indefinitely
The explanation behind each platform's actions was the same; they all stated that they will not tolerate accounts or information that perpetuate and incite violence.
I find this news very exciting; perhaps if he does not have a platform to speak, his rhetoric and ideas will not be as widespread and not as many people will listen to his misinformation.
However, his supporters are claiming that this is a free speech violation and are equating it to tyrants (such as Hitler) restricting speech to get their point across. In other words, I think all of America just needs a break.
