Vaccine Cancellations in Sonoma County

If you live in Sonoma County, you most likely know that we just had to cancel a lot of vaccine appointments due to extreme weather elsewhere upending expected deliveries of doses.

If you didn't know that, keep reading for more information.

These supply problems were so bad that Sutter Health decided to completely pause all appointments for first doses and reschedule some appointments for second doses.

Clinics at Sonoma Valley High School, Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall, the SRJC, Analy High School, and Guerneville School are either closing or reducing the appointments they give out. Many are deciding to hold on to any new doses until they get assured of sufficient supply and are only vaccinating second doses.

This is bad news for the around 63,000 people that were just cleared for eligibility of the vaccine. The county announced Friday that they would immediately open immunizations for those 65 and older, as well as food production, restaurant, and grocery store employees. However, this is not possible now until we receive the shipments that we were originally expecting.

On the bright side, county health officials said that they did receive kits with syringes, bottles, and other vaccine goods on Monday. These shipments typically precede the vaccine doses by around 24 hours.

So hopefully, we will get our doses soon.

I'm cautiously optimistic.
