Throw Your Caps...In Your Passenger Seat?

My heart goes out to all the seniors that have to deal with this awful pandemic. Your senior trips, your proms, your graduations, and your grad nights are all gone.

I know that you are all mad. I would be too. I know that our school has put everything they have into preparations for all of these activities during the summer, but no one really knows what the summer will bring. I recently read an article in the Press Democrat that our superintendent is considering graduation sometime in late fall or winter. To those of you who are going off to school in the fall, would you come back over Winter Break to take part in your graduation? Would you want to be done with the whole ordeal?

I've also heard of drive-through graduation. Although getting a diploma should not emulate the same process as getting a Taco Bell burrito, I have a feeling that this may be the closest thing our seniors will get. The thing that I keep hearing from my seniors is, "I just want to move on. I just want to go to college. I'm over it."

While this sentiment is sad, I understand it. Our newfound normal is the farthest thing from a proper high school sendoff. A sad graduation with a tinge of COVID-19 may be even worse than the memories of spending your last quarter of senior year in your house.

The real question is, "Do you think our seniors will be allowed to decorate their caps now?"
