The Super Bowl Surge

Time still doesn't feel real as the pandemic continues on, which explains why I was shocked to hear in my first period class on Monday that the Super Bowl is this Sunday. Unfortunately, this could also be a slight issue.
As excitement builds for the Super Bowl, California's top health official warned residents against gathering with people outside their own household to watch the game, fearing it might cause another COVID-19 surge.
Usually, Super Bowl Sunday is a day where a lot of food is made and a lot of people come over to watch the game. However, this year, we can't safely have people from outside our household inside and watching the TV for a prolonged period of time.
That's what makes the Super Bowl such a cause for concern. It is best enjoyed on the couch inside. There is no good way to watch it socially distanced outside for the majority of people. Newsom just lifted the stay-at-home order; let's not force him to enact another one please.
In addition, California has been doing better! The positivity rate for the past two weeks is now at 7.2%, down from 11.6% on January 19th. The state also reported Tuesday that there were 12,064 cases of COVID-19, a huge drop compared to some days in December where we were logging more than 50,000 new cases. We are going in a good direction; we shouldn't stop that now.
