The Darkest Winter in Modern Times

Dr. Rick Bright was the director of a federal office that was in charge of medical countermeasures against the virus before he was fired by Trump's administration. He is expected to testify in Congress to argue for his reinstatement and to talk about the current administration's lack of preparedness. He believes that "without clear planning and implementation of the steps that [he] and other experts have outlined, 2020 will be darkest winter in modern history." He feels that the reopening of many states and the president's push to restart the economy has started too soon and will lead to a resurgence of the virus in the fall and winter. Without a calculated scientific response to this virus, he thinks that the United States will have many more fatalities that could have been prevented.
Currently, Dr. Bright is aiming to be reinstated as director because he feels he was fired in retaliation, as he spoke out against Trump's encouragement of a drug "cure" called chloroquine.
In order to stop a rapid spike that would occur in the fall, he stresses the importance of public education of preventative measures, alongside increased production of medical instruments, and a more reliable testing procedure.
Personally, I will be watching his testimony in front of Congress. I hope that he gets reinstated, because we need everyone that we can get with scientific basis and logical reasoning making COVID-19 decisions. I think that it is frustrating that he feels he was removed from his post due to the anger of Trump. If they find this to be true during his hearing, I think that would be extremely concerning to hear. The one recurring theme that I keep finding during Trump's presidency is that his pride gets in the way of him making logical decisions. I want to think so badly that this man was fired for other reasons than simply because he made Trump feel stupid and went against his opinion.
