Texas and Florida have made the decision to close down bars after a recent resurgence of new coronavirus cases.
Florida recorded 8,942 new cases today, which is a new record for the state - the previous record of 5,508 cases set two days ago was demolished. Haley Beshears, the Secretary of Department of Business and Professional Regulation conveyed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' message in a tweet: "Effective immediately, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation is suspending on premises consumption of alcohol at bars statewide."
Texas pauses its reopening as coronavirus cases spike by 145% in 2 weeks. Gov. Gregg Abbott put strict limits of restaurant dining and hit the pause button on Texas' reopening plans. "All establishments that rake in more than 51% of income from alcohol had until noon to close their doors, although they would still be allowed to stay open for take-out or delivery sales." Restaurants as well had to change to this new plan. They will still be allowed to stay open, but only at less than 50% capacity. Tourist-friendly businesses like tubing and rafting were also ordered to be immediately closed and public gatherings of 100 people of more will need to be approved by local governments.
I am glad to see these two states with resurgences of new cases put down new guidelines in order to mitigate this growth. We just need to keep hanging in there and follow the rules because they are put in place in order to ensure our safety. Have a good weekend!
