Sonoma County was allowed to move into the red tier today, one step better than the purple tier we have been stuck in basically this entire time. (The purple tier is the most restrictive stage of the state's coronavirus reopening plan.)
California has now vaccinated 2 million of the state's poorest residents. This milestone allows all California counties to move into the red tier of the state's four-stage community reopening plan.
This step forward permits schools to resume in-person instruction for all grades with certain safety measures on campuses.
Local restaurants and gyms can now have people inside with limited capacity, while grocery stores and retail shops can begin expanding the amount of people allowed inside. Gyms will enforce protective measures, such as masks, temperature scanners, and spray bottles of cleaner at the wokout machines.
Movie theaters, zoos, and aquariums that have been previously shut all the way down can now begin welcoming patrons back with 25% capacity.
Breweries and distilleries will be allowed to also open but only without food service. Bars that don't serve food must still remain closed.
For these businesses to continue offering indoor service, our daily virus infection rate must go no higher than 10 per 100,000 residents. We were at 9 on Tuesday, or an adjusted level of 8.2 per 100,000.
Hopefully this good news keeps up, and our case count stays below 10 per 100,000 residents! This is a good way to start a Monday - now let's keep staying as safe as possible to continue this downward trend.
