Trump has publicly stated that the coronavirus has been reduced to just "embers" and "ashes" as US citizens are becoming increasingly antsy to get back to a semblance of their normal routine. Unfortunately, the facts do not support Trump's case. Another 1,299 Americans died on Tuesday alone and more than 112,000 people have died in only the US, an addition of 12,000 cases in only the past two weeks. The US total of confirmed virus cases now exceeds 2 million.
Trump refuses to acknowledge these deaths, as he pushes states and businesses to reopen. He has been all around the country without a mask. This sets a poor example for the people of the US as it puts forth the idea that the leader of their country feels masks are not important or that the threat of getting the virus is not real. People, unfortunately, follow the president's lead, as his job is to lead the country. Pence even tweeted recently a picture of his visit to crammed-together campaign workers, all of whom were not wearing masks or social distancing (the tweet is the cover photo). Since then, he has deleted the tweet (for reasons which I feel are obvious).
Trump has also openly defied officials' orders of no large social gatherings by planning a rally in Oklahoma next week and others in four states.
Now what do I think about this? I am scared. I never thought that America would be in this position. We have a leader who blatantly disregards any expert's advice because he either believes he is invincible or smarter than them, or probably a mix of both. This leader is encouraging his people to ignore guidelines set in place in order to protect them. His job as leader of the United States is to protect his citizens, and he is doing the opposite of that by furthering a rhetoric that is dangerous and not well thought out.
Please continue wearing your masks when in public and keep a six foot distance when possible. Please continue washing your hands and exercise caution when going to reopened businesses. Unfortunately, we are not invincible. Stay safe!
HA! keeping us inside will ruin the economy. Since the start of corona, the people haven't followed the rules including me bc it's just a virus. You can't blame something on the president when the people started doing it first. Many companies are losing billions bc of corona. Yesterday, Starbucks announced that they'll be closing hundreds of stores across the U.S. and Canada costing them billions.
