My family and I decided to watch the first night of the Democratic National Convention last night. Although the convention was now virtual due to the virus, they did a really great job doing everything virtually and with headliners such as the former Republican Gov. of Ohio John Kasich and former Democratic presidential nominee Bernie Sanders, it was an easy decision to make. But one speech stood out from the others. Michelle Obama delivered the keynote speech, and it was amazing.
Please listen to it. The points that she makes are important. I will get straight to the point here and then post the link to her speech below. There was one line that I thought was extremely powerful:
Vote like your lives depend on it.
And as I was mulling that line over, I realized that for all of us except the straight white man, our lives do depend on this vote. Donald Trump's rhetoric depends on stripping away most of our rights: the rights of immigrants, the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, the rights of women, the rights of POC. Please keep that in mind when you're casting your ballot in November or sending it by mail in October.
