Is Fauci a Realist or an Alarmist?

As I have seen on MSNBC over the past few days, it has become a daily habit for President Trump to attempt to discredit Dr. Anthony Fauci. Most recently, President Trump referred to Fauci as "an alarmist." This comment made in an interview on Fox News Sunday came after Fauci warned last week that this pandemic could be as bad as the 1918 flu pandemic, which is estimated to have killed at least 50 million people worldwide. Trump also said that his administration was not involved in a campaign to discredit Fauci, but then began questioning why Fauci had said that people shouldn't wear a mask at the beginning of the outbreak. But then he walked it back and said that he has "a very good relationship with Dr. Fauci." This strange unpredictable relationship Trump feels he has with Fauci is more toxic than Alison and Emily's relationship in Pretty Little Liars.

Fauci fought back against this claim, stating that he considers himself "a realist" as well as "an optimist." In this same interview, Fauci was asked if he'll be joining Trump at the coronavirus briefing that the president is restarting on Tuesday. Fauci seemed unaware that it was happening, stating that he had not gotten the official word yet for specific scheduling. Meanwhile, Trump had told reporters on Monday that he would hold a new briefing on Tuesday, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET. Fauci says he imagines he "would be part of it" if "they start the briefings." Let's hope he is!

Let's tune in tonight. The president's first coronavirus briefing since April should be interesting. I wonder if he will try to minimize the actual spread of the virus, or if he will actually take it seriously. I wonder if he will wear a mask. I do know one thing for certain. Dr. Fauci really loves the Washington Nationals. (see cover photo)
