Blood Type Affects Risk for COVID-19?

A team of researchers from the States Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology in Tianjin analyzed the blood sample of 2200 coronavirus patients in China and tens of thousands of healthy citizens. They found that those with the blood type A had a significantly higher risk of coronavirus while those with the blood type O had a significantly lower risk. They believed that these findings could be important for health care workers in prioritizing medical help. Those with A blood types "might need particularly strengthened personal protection to reduce the chance of infection" or "more vigilant surveillance and aggressive treatment."
These findings were very new, and were published on the website medRxiv, where health researchers publish studies before they have been sufficiently peer reviewed. Researchers say that their results may stem from certain antibodies in the different blood types, but further research is needed. This study was limited in its size and didn't offer an explanation for its findings, so researchers are stressing that while these are interesting and perhaps important, true findings, citizens should not take these statistics too seriously. If you are Type A, it does not mean you will be infected 100%, and if you are Plan B you are not necessarily safe either.
I just thought that these new findings were very interesting, especially as a student that likes statistics. I hope that further research is done and more statistically significant results come from it!
*To be completely clear though, do not let your blood type dictate your actions against the virus as the study has its limitations, and significant results do not guarantee that every case will have the same result.*
