When trying to figure out what I would write about today, I looked towards news stories that bring a little bit of light to this difficult time. Hopefully you guys enjoy this one.
A San Francisco couple got engaged on the Golden Gate Bridge during a Black Lives Matter protest last Saturday. Around 0.85 miles into the 1.7 mile bridge, Quinlin Messenger asked his girlfriend, Carrie Montgomery if she would marry him. She said yes! (the cover photo is of the proposal)
She shared an uplifting message on her Instagram, writing "So this just happened today... I love this man, and so honored to have him by my side as we walk together to make this world a better place for our kids there is no time like the present to change the future, and damnit it starts with LOVE."
Messenger later talked on Facebook the reasons behind his proposal, citing that it came after five years of getting over his fears of protesting racial injustice. He was scared of what might happen to him when protesting as a black man in America, but he says that his new fiancee has helped him conquer his fear. He also writes that "you've shown me that the power of empathy, patience, and understanding can truly inspire change. So excited for what lies ahead for us, and our family to be. We hope our love can be a beacon for all!”
The couple told ABC7 that they didn't want the engagement to detract from the protests, but instead serve as a beacon of inspiration in this difficult time.
Even in all of this turmoil, good things can still come to light.
Have a good weekend and keep hanging in there!
